Bringing informal activities to life in Cornwall

Cornwall CSP this week organised a unique networking event for 22 facility providers and representatives from 13 different NGBs to establish links to increase participation in sport and physical activity for people aged 16 plus in Cornwall.

The format of the event enabled the NGBs to pitch their new concepts and products, including Back to Netball, Rush Hockey, Easy Cricket and No Strings Badminton in a Dragon’s Den style for the leisure provider to buy-in to their product. Each NGB was given a brief by the CSP  to fill a 5 minute slot to sell their intervention and produce a one page handout on the intervention.

Facility providers were then asked to select sports they thought would work well in their centre and community. Sport England presented their Market Segmentation tool kit and finally the centres were paired up with the sports they had selected for some speed dating to agree actions.

The purpose of the event was to help leisure facilities fill their dead time and also help NGBs achieve the GROW targets that they’ve been set by Sport England. Simon Ridd from Sport England attended the event to help both groups understand who their customer is and how to ensure the product is delivered at the right time within the right location.

Cornwall Sports Partnership were delighted with the turnout and success of the event and are now working with the facility providers to help them implement their chosen activities.
