CSP Network has welcomed the publication of Sport England’s new Professional Workforce Strategy “Working in an Active Nation”.
Working in an Active Nationi s based on two key objectives. Firstly, to support the workforce to become more customer focused and secondly, to develop the workforce so that it is recognised as professional. The strategy sets out a clear vision to give more than 400,000 people who work in the sport and physical activity sector in England, and the people they help get active, the best possible support.
Lee Mason, CEO of the CSP Network said:
“The workforce plays an instrumental role in helping people take their first steps towards physical activity and strengthening their resolve to stay active. It is therefore imperative that our workforce truly understands the needs of the people who do and want to do more sport and physical activity and that they are appropriately skilled, motivated and supported to make the customer experience the very best it can be to influence their likelihood of returning.
We are extremely pleased that Sport England have recognised and invested in the valuable role CSPs can play in helping to recruit, develop and deploy a quality and diverse workforce through our work with sport and non-sport partners and sectors”
Working in an Active Nation complementsCoaching in an Active Nation and Volunteering in an Active Nationand outlines how the sector will work together to enable and achieve a systematic change in the creation of a skilled, motivated and valued workforce to inspire an action nation
Sport England have identified a number of key actions and operating principles that they will be undertaking to help achieve the two objectives identified such as carrying out in-depth research into the current workforce and setting diversity targets, investing in leadership, launching a workforce diversity fund and backing the work of The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) to help professionalise the sector.
