Living Sport has recently launched the Greater Cambridge 10k delivered in partnership with the University of Cambridge. This new race will follow a unique, flat, traffic free, 2 lap course and will all be based on the University of Cambridge’s West Cambridge site. The course has been officially measured and we have been issued with an event permit.
The start and finish for the event will be just outside the fabulous University of Cambridge Sports Centre and we will offer a change and registration zone in the Sports Hall as well as a baggage drop off facility. The event is planned to start at 10:30am on Sunday 11th September 2016 and running store Advanced Performance and Waitrose of St.Ives will be supporting us.
Living Sport Sports Awards Winner Rebecca Griffiths of ‘Team Bex’ will be starting the event and taking part with her team. She attended the photocall launching the event and explained “Team Bex is really excited to be supporting this event this year. A team that began with one now has over 400 members. Team Bex was formed by me to promote healthy living and also to give hope to those suffering with severe illnesses. Living Sport and Team Bex work well together as they are both about bringing people together to enjoy all sports, and promoting healthy living to all ages. We look forward to seeing you all at the 10k!”
Talking about the event Simon Fairhall said “West Cambridge offers the perfect backdrop for a fast 10k. Whilst running through the site you will have the luxury of running on a new flat surface which is completely traffic free. Entries in the inaugural year are limited to 700 spaces and we anticipate the event to sell out fast.”
Nick Brooking, Director of Sport at the University of Cambridge explained “we are delighted to be hosting this new event in partnership with Living Sport. As a Sports Centre that is open to both members of the University and the wider community, we are always eager to get involved in local events such as this that will give both beginners and the serious distance runner the opportunity to try a new race.”
