Energise Me is thrilled to announce the release of our Golden Mile launch video, produced in collaboration with Lockerley C of E Primary School, Newchurch Primary School and Broadlea Primary School, to showcase and celebrate the amazing effect the initiative is having in schools across the county.
Evidence shows that increased levels of physical activity can have a huge positive impact on the lives of our children, not only on their fitness but their mental well-being and confidence. The Golden Mile is a great way in which to do this, it is a free of charge, safe, simple and measurable health & physical activity initiative accessible to all pupils regardless of age or ability.
Working in partnership with Premier Education, Hampshire School Nurses, School Games Organisers and Local Authorities, Energise Me aims to increase the amount of time each day pupils from Hampshire & IOW are active in schools by walking, jogging or running around a measured distance (the Golden Mile Track) within the safety of the school grounds.
Feedback from schools already taking part has been fantastic. On the Golden Mile, Headteacher from Newchurch Primary School said:
“It has not been a burden in setting up at all and the Sports Leaders have introduced it through an assembly, and now monitor it. Teachers will take children outside during lessons to gain fresh air and have a period of activity which then aids their learning and focuses them when returning to class. Parents have reported that their children are buzzing about ‘clocking up’ their Golden Miles’ in school and it also has stimulated an active approach at weekends for them as a family too! Definitely a winner for us as a school in promoting well-being”
Primary schools across Hampshire & the Isle of Wight are being encouraged to introduce The Golden Mile in to their school day. To support in introducing the programme, Energise Me and Winchester City Council will be hosting a Golden Mile Festival in Winchester on 11 July for all schools not already signed up to receive training and learn from schools already taking part. Registration is essential and schools can find out more by contacting Energise Me, 01962 676165.

About The Golden Mile
http://www.energiseme.org/schools-colleges/the-golden-mile/
The Golden Mile is a safe, simple and measurable health & physical activity initiative accessible to all pupils regardless of age or ability. By participating in the Golden Mile project schools will not only provide their pupils with greater access to physical activity but they will also see the wider gains of regular activity with improved health benefits, improved classroom behaviour and concentration levels, team work and leadership.
There will be no cost for Hampshire & IOW schools to sign up to the Golden Mile Project, we just ask that each school has a named coordinator who can attend a training session and be a champion in their school. The concept is simple but it is highly effective as any school and any pupil can take part.
