Following a police investigation into allegations of sexual grooming of a child the CSP was contacted by the Designated Officer for the Local Authority (former LADO). The individual had been identified as a coach by the police but full details of his current contact with children was unknown. The CSP operated a County coaching database and the CSP Safeguarding lead had promoted this, and other work with the safeguarding team. The designated officer contacted the CSP as part of their initial investigation and it was identified the individual was registered on the coaching database. The CSP was able to share relevant information with them, including which clubs and schools the individual had been involved with alongside the details of the NGB lead officers for those sports. On advice from the Designated Officer the individual was suspended from the coaching database and the CSP, along with the relevant NGBs were involved with subsequent strategy meetings.
The CSP was key to providing, through its local and national network, essential information to the local safeguarding agencies and ensuring appropriate action was taken to safeguard children and young people.
