Reducing the number of falls will improve lives and reduce pressure on local services. Active Norfolk has taken the lead in bringing an innovative falls prevention approach to Norfolk - Dance to Health.
Dance to Health is a pioneering nationwide falls prevention dance programme for older people. It combines evidence-based physiotherapy with the creativity, expression and energy of dance. Dance To Health has helped hundreds of older people remain active and independent across the country and is available to Norwich residents via three local groups.
Active Norfolk has partnered with DanceEast, NHS Norwich Clinical Commissioning Group and Norfolk County Council to assist Aesop in delivering Dance to Health session across Norwich. This provides elderly people, who may be at risk of sustaining injury through falling, with a chance to become more active at regular organised sessions.
In Norfolk there are a number of sessions taking place which are open to older people who may benefit from the social interaction, falls prevention techniques and physical activity provided. Each session will be coordinated by a professional dance artist to ensure each participant will get the most out each session. The sessions are supported through subscriptions, local grants and fundraising.
